Here are some Frequently Asked Questions we get on our Pet Sitting & Dog Walking Services.
Why should I walk my dog (or have someone walk my dog)?
Walking your dog or having someone walk your dog for you, is about more than just providing a bathroom break. Walks provide mental stimulation, physical exercise, socialization (being around people, other animals, objects, etc) and a possible chance for training. Dogs that are walked regularly tend to be more well behaved because their needs have been met.
Should I hire a professional or a hobby pet sitter?
What is a consultation?
A consultation is basically a meet and greet. It lets everyone get to know each other, including the pet(s) we will be working with. This also allows us to see if we are the right fit for one another. We go over paperwork and any questions either of the parties have for one another. Consultations are scheduled a few weeks in advance.
During pet sitting consultations, the owner will walk the Pet Care Provider through the daily pet care they will need to provide while the owner is away. They will go over the location of clean up supplies, where the food and other care items are kept, any yard or house rules, etc.
During dog walking consultations, the owner will show us the location of the leash, and go over any yard or house rules.
We can receive keys (or one key and one access code) and payment at the time of the consultation or we can schedule a pick up time at a later date. Scheduling at a later date also gives us another chance to meet your pets. Consultations take approximately 30-60 minutes depending on the services the consult is for and the animals involved.
How much are consultations?
Consultations are complimentary.
What animal experience do you have?
I come from a very animal friendly house hold. Growing up, I was apart of 4-H for 11 years before aging out. I personally owned or currently own dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, hermit crabs, fish, frogs, and lizards. I was at one time or another involved with the 4-H dog club, 4-H rabbit & small animal club, and 4-H exotic bird & poultry club. I currently lead three clubs as a 4-H Leader (animal community service, rabbit/small animal, & dog). I started to show dogs in 6th grade in 4-H shows and started to show Small Animals (hamsters, guinea pigs, gerbil) in 8th grade in 4-H shows. I continued to show in 4-H until I aged out my first year in college. I began showing dogs when I was a senior in high school and still do it today in AKC and UKC events.
I am a Certified Professional Trainer who has experience working as a bather in a grooming salon, a doggie day care attendant, care provider in a boarding kennel and as a dog trainer at a dog boarding kennel. I have attended multiple workshops and seminars on a wide rang of animal topics (both as a 4-H'er and as an adult). I am also trained in Pet First Aid & CPR.
